For one of our clients, an international trading company, we are seeking a Senior Grains Trader to develop and manage a physical grains trading book from Switzerland. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced trader to expand commercial flows across EMEA, grow a counterparty network, and take ownership of trading strategy, risk exposure, and P&L performance.
Your mission:
- Develop and manage a physical grains trading book across EMEA, with direct responsibility for commercial strategy and P&L.
- Originate, negotiate, and execute physical grains trades with producers, exporters, importers, processors, feed mills, millers, and other key counterparties.
- Monitor grains markets, including supply and demand, crop conditions, weather, freight, FX, trade flows, and geopolitical developments.
- Build and maintain a strong network across relevant origins and destinations, including Europe, Black Sea, Mediterranean, Middle East, and Africa.
- Manage pricing, basis risk, counterparty risk, credit exposure, logistics constraints, and contractual risk in coordination with internal teams.
- Work closely with operations, chartering, trade finance, documentation, and logistics teams to ensure smooth contract execution.
- Negotiate and manage contracts under GAFTA standards where applicable, ensuring alignment with Incoterms®, quality specifications, and internal risk policies.
Your profile:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in physical grains trading.
- Proven track record in managing a trading book with direct P&L responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of international grains markets, including wheat, corn, barley, and ideally oilseeds.
- Established counterparty network across EMEA origins and/or destinations.
- Solid understanding of GAFTA contracts, Incoterms®, physical execution, pricing mechanisms, hedging, and risk management.
- Fluent in French and English; additional languages are an asset.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, strong negotiation skills, commercial instinct, and disciplined approach to risk.
