For one of our clients, an international energy commodities trading company, we are recruiting a Middle Office & P&L Controller to join its Geneva office. Working at the interface between Trading, Risk, Operations, Finance, and external accounting partners, the role will be responsible for the production, control, and analysis of trading P&L, mark-to-market valuations, hedging activities, and risk reporting.

Your mission:

• Calculate, validate, and report daily and monthly trading P&L across physical and derivative energy transactions
• Perform mark-to-market valuations and ensure the accuracy of market prices, trading positions, inventories, and exposures
• Analyze P&L movements and explain key drivers, including price, volume, basis, freight, foreign exchange, timing, and valuation effects
• Monitor hedging transactions and reconcile physical positions with futures, swaps, and other derivative instruments
• Produce position, exposure, risk, P&L, and management reports for Trading, Finance, and Management
• Reconcile trading P&L with accounting results and investigate any discrepancies between operational, trading, and financial data
• Review accruals, provisions, inventory valuations, invoices, and accounting entries related to trading activities
• Coordinate with the external accounting provider and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, including balance-sheet reconciliations and audit preparation
• Ensure consistency between trading systems, operational data, SAP, and the general ledger
• Contribute to the improvement of middle-office controls, accounting processes, reporting tools, and financial KPIs

 

Your profile:

• Higher education in finance, accounting, audit, risk management, or a related field
• 5–8 years of experience in Middle Office, Product Control, P&L Control, Trading Finance, Accounting, or Risk within a trading environment
• Previous experience in energy or commodities trading is strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of P&L calculation, mark-to-market valuation, physical trading, derivatives, hedging, and risk exposures
• Solid accounting knowledge, including accruals, inventory valuation, balance-sheet reconciliations, month-end closing, and general-ledger principles
• Ability to bridge trading activity, risk reporting, and financial accounting
• Strong working knowledge of SAP; experience with a CTRM or ETRM system would be an advantage
• Advanced analytical and reconciliation skills, with strong attention to detail
• Comfortable operating in an international, multi-currency, and fast-paced trading environment
• Fluent English; French would be an advantage
• Autonomous, rigorous, and able to interact effectively with traders, operational teams, finance professionals, auditors, and external service providers
