For one of our clients operating in the oil products trading sector, we are seeking an experienced Trader– Oil Products to be based in Geneva
Your mission:
- Develop and manage physical oil products trading activities across African markets, focusing on profitable flows, counterparty development, and end-to-end trade execution.
- Identify, originate, negotiate, and execute physical trades in gasoline, gasoil/diesel, jet fuel, fuel oil, LPG and other refined products.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, importers, distributors, NOCs, brokers, agents, terminals, shipowners, inspectors, banks, and other market participants.
- Monitor African oil products markets, including supply/demand, tenders, freight, storage, refinery outages, FX constraints, credit risk, and regulatory developments.
- Structure and negotiate commercial terms, including pricing, incoterms, payment terms, letters of credit, quality specifications, demurrage, and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate with operations, chartering, finance, credit, legal, compliance, risk, and trade support teams to ensure smooth execution from deal capture to settlement.
- Manage trading margins, pricing exposure, counterparty risk, operational risk, working capital, and trading P&L in line with internal policies.
- Support the company’s African trading strategy by identifying new geographies, counterparties, product flows, logistics solutions, and arbitrage opportunities.
- Ensure all transactions comply with internal procedures, contractual obligations, sanctions rules, KYC requirements, and applicable regulations.
Your profile:
- 10+ years of experience in physical oil products trading, business development, or commercial roles within energy commodities, with exposure to African markets.
- Strong knowledge of refined products markets, including gasoline, diesel/gasoil, jet fuel, fuel oil and/or LPG.
- Proven ability to originate, negotiate, and close physical trades with suppliers, customers, importers, distributors, NOCs, OMCs, and local market participants.
- Solid understanding of physical trading flows, pricing mechanisms, freight, storage, quality specifications, incoterms, documentation, letters of credit, and trade finance.
- Good command of trading economics, including margins, arbitrage, freight impact, demurrage, credit cost, FX exposure, working capital, and operational P&L.
- Existing network in African oil products markets is strongly preferred
- Experience in fast-paced international trading environments, with exposure to emerging markets, complex logistics, and challenging credit or payment conditions.
- Fluent in English. French is a strong advantage for West and Central Africa. Portuguese or Arabic is a plus.
- Commercially driven, autonomous, proactive, resilient, and able to manage multiple transactions and counterparties simultaneously.
- Strong negotiation, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills, with high integrity, risk awareness, and attention to detail.
